In the seventh grade, I read the first poem that really caught my attention. It was The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. (Click the title to have a read.)
Every time I hear the phrase “a fork in a road” or see a picture of a path that diverges, I think about this poem (well at least the title.) Honestly I don’t think I would have paid as much attention as I did to this piece of art if it weren’t for it being classwork in the 7th grade. But I did and it was worth it.

When I studied The Road Not Taken in class, we conculed that it was about a man who was tater tottering between which of two paths to take. “I took the one less traveled by” let us know that she his choice was something that most people wouldn’t have done. Now years later that I am researching this poem, instead of websites speaking on the theme of not following what others do, their understanding of this poem is the importance of decision making in life.
